TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Police in the Town of Newburgh now say the man who held up the Walden Savings Bank branch on Route 9W shortly after noon on Saturday made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police said the man, described as possible Arabic of Middle Eastern, in his late 30s to 40s, passed a teller a note demanding cash. Police on the scene on Saturday said the man said he had a gun, but did not display one.

The suspect was wearing a white or tan sweatshirt, jeans, a black medical face mask and a blue baseball cap.

State Police assisted on the ground and with an aviation unit and a police K-9 unit was also employed to track for evidence.

The incident continues under investigation and police ask anyone who may have been driving in the area – between 11:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – between the bank and Marlboro and may have a dashcam, or if they have a business on Route 9W that has cameras to call Newburgh Town Police at 845-564-1100 and ask for Detective O’Connell or Detective Sisia.
