Sixteen-year-old arrested in shooting of Monticello woman

MONTICELLO – Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the July 15 shooting of a 27-year-old Monticello woman at the Sleepy Hollow apartment complex on Terry Lane in Monticello.

The boy, whose name was not made public because of his age, was spotted and arrested by Village of Liberty Police in the area of Albion Street this past Wednesday, September 6.

He was charged with the felonies of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm. Police did not say what precipitated the shooting.

The youth was remanded to a secure youth detention facility in lieu of $300,000 cash bail, $750,000 bail bond and $1 million secured insurance bond pending future court action.

Assisting Monticello Police in the investigation were State Police, Liberty Village Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and County District Attorney’s Office.
