Two teens caught with guns on holiday weekend

POUGHKEEPSIE – City cops in Poughkeepsie have taken 35 guns off of city streets so far this year.  Two of the most recent illegal firearms were taken from teenagers in an 18-hour period over the holiday weekend.

On Monday, September 4, 2023, at approximately 12:45 a.m. police attempted to make contact with two individuals suspected of drug sales in the area of Main and Cherry Streets.  As officers approached, the two attempted to flee.  The one subject, confined to a wheelchair, was being pushed by his younger accomplice.  The pursuit did not last long and the two were taken into custody.

The 18-year-old was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Police found the man to be in possession of crack cocaine and fentanyl as well as a defaced 9mm semi-automatic handgun.  He was processed at police headquarters and held pending arraignment.

The accomplice was processed on criminal possession of a controlled substance charge and released with a family court appearance ticket.  More on the 16-year-old’s weekend-long crime spree can be found here.

On Tuesday morning at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers approached a group of teens suspected of criminal drug sales near the intersection of Main and Rose Streets.  One of those stopped was the same 16-year-old who was processed on Monday morning for possession of crack cocaine.  Once again, he was found in possession of crack cocaine and processed on the charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance and issued another family court appearance ticket.

The 18-year-old was caught in possession of crack cocaine and fentanyl as well as a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun.  He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon.  The teen was held pending arraignment.
