MONTGOMERY- The New York State Parole Board has once again denied parole for Juan Peinado who was convicted of murdering 12-year-old Danny Meyer in 1996.  Danny, who lived in Maybrook, was brutally stabbed by Peinado on his way to a Little League game.

Now, more than 27 years after his murder, Danny’s family and members of the community continue their effort to deliver justice for Danny.  This is not the first time Peinado has faced the parole board, he first became eligible for a parole hearing back in 2021.

“Danny’s killer will remain in prison for at least two more years and our family wants to thank everyone for writing letters to the parole board, signing Assemblyman Maher’s online petition, sending us caring words and your thoughts, prayers and love over the past few months,” said Kristen Smith, Danny’s sister.

Assemblyman Brian Maher (R, Montgomery) organized an online petition urging the parole board to deny Peinado’s release.  The petition received thousands of signatures.

“I commend the parole board in seeing the facts in this case, Danny Meyer’s young life was savagely taken by Juan Peinado and that he must continue his sentence.  Peinado’s predatory and ruthless actions are reason enough he should never be released from prison,” said Maher.
