WASHINGTON D.C.- More than 150 members of Congress have signed on to H.R. 3774, a measure dubbed the SHIP Act, that cracks down on the illicit purchase of Iranian oil.  SHIP is an acronym for Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum.

“I’m proud to see such broad, bipartisan support for the SHIP Act,” said Congressman Lawler (R, NY-17). “Iran, Russia, China, and North Korea have formed an unholy alliance and are working together to evade sanctions and bolster each other’s economies.  It is imperative that we work with our democratic partners and allies to thwart this new axis of evil that is hellbent on disrupting and dismantling the free world.”

“The SHIP Act will unequivocally sink Iran’s aspirations of regional dominance and poke holes in their trade relationships,” added Lawler.  “An ascendant Iran is one of the gravest threats the world faces today.  The SHIP Act will thwart the Iranian regime’s rise and preempt them from accomplishing their nefarious ends.  I will continue to work with my colleagues to pass this important legislation and welcome all of my colleagues to add their names to the SHIP Act.”

The SHIP Act was introduced by Lawler, along with his colleague Congressman Jared Moskowitz of Florida’s 23rd Congressional District.
