FISHKILL – The Town of Fishkill has been inundated with proposals for self-storage facilities, so the town has imposed a 12-month moratorium to assess and examine the town code and potentially consider amending town zoning to ensure those facilities are properly regulated.

Town Supervisor Ozzy Albra said the town board decision came after listening to residents’ concerns about the over-development of those facilities.

Councilman Carmine Istvan said the moratorium is in keeping with the town’s new comprehensive plan that calls for the board to review the code to ensure smart development that benefits residents.

“It’s about keeping up the comprehensive plan and the overall curb appeal of Fishkill,” said Istvan. “We’re having this influx of applications for self-storage, and we need to see how we can curb that and slow it down to preserve the appearance of our town like the comprehensive plan directs us to do.”
