NEW PALTZ – Students started their school year Thursday at SUNY New Paltz as they began moving into their residence halls.

“Invigorated, excited,” said College President Darrell Wheeler as he stood outside Esopus Hall dormitory describing his morning tour of the campus. It’s great to see the families, and the students moving in, and seeing the campus come back to life.”

The campus is expected to start the 2023/2024 academic-year with 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students, 1,100 of which are first-year students and 700 who are transfers to the college.

Thursday was the beginning of a week of activities to start the new academic year.

“We have really reinvigorated, energized colleagues working in the residence halls and student life,” said Wheeler.

The annual moving in to start the academic year is expected to last through the weekend before classes start Monday, August 28.
