TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Well-known community activist Frankie Flowers, 49, was arrested on Thursday by the Town of Poughkeepsie police as a result of an arrest warrant from the State of Connecticut.  Flowers is the son of the late John Flowers, a legend in the City of Poughkeepsie and beyond.  The younger Flowers has been carrying on his father’s legacy by continuing the annual Easter Egg Hunt, toy drives, and countless other works of charity, with the assistance of his sister, City of Poughkeepsie Councilwoman Yvonne Flowers.  Yvonne Flowers recently won a three-way primary to become the Democratic candidate for City of Poughkeepsie mayor in the November election.

Moments after Flowers’ booking photo appeared on the Mobile Patrol app on Friday, rumors began circulating throughout the area, regarding the reason for the warrant that led to his arrest.  As of the time of publication, no information has been released by the arresting agency.

Yvonne Flowers spoke to Mid-Hudson News in an exclusive interview regarding her brother’s arrest.  The reporter also told her of the allegations from certain members of the community who contacted Mid-Hudson News.  “I only learned of my brother’s legal trouble today.  I love my brother and will support him but right now he’s an innocent man under the law,” she said. “Unfortunately certain people have already convicted him of something they don’t know anything about.”

One community member, who lost the Democratic primary race to be a candidate for the city council, falsely claimed that Frankie Flowers is the campaign manager for his sister.  Upon hearing that, Councilwoman Flowers denounced that rumor. “My brother has been an outspoken supporter of every campaign I have been involved in, including this one, but he is certainly not my campaign manager…he’s my brother and that is all.”

The councilwoman made an appeal to the general public, asking for people to refrain from casting judgment until all of the facts have been presented.  “Any person accused of a crime is entitled to have their day in court.  Out of respect for my family, I ask that people avoid spreading misinformation and let the justice system carry out its duties.”

Frankie Flowers is currently being held at the Dutchess County Jail as of Friday afternoon.
