Accused fentanyl fugitive Daniel Mizzel

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 41-year-old Poughkeepsie resident indicted last summer for felony drug charges was apprehended by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force in Hyde Park after evading police for nearly one year.

Daniel Curtis Mizzel was indicted by the Dutchess County Grand Jury for criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and criminal sale of a controlled substance of fentanyl and crack cocaine last summer, following a lengthy investigation.

On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, members of the task force and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit apprehended Mizzel at an undisclosed location in Hyde Park, after they received several tips regarding the fugitive’s whereabouts.

After being apprehended, Mizzel was processed and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

The task force is led by Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Adam Harris, who praised the efforts of his team in apprehending Mizzel.  “The Dutchess County Drug Task Force, consisting of officers from several police departments, work tirelessly to bring drug dealers to justice, and this subject is one that needs to be off the streets,” said Harris.  “We work around the clock to apprehend drug dealers that sell the poison that tears our communities apart, and we’re not letting them go.”

The task force is comprised of members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Hyde Park Police, and East Fishkill Police, along with the officers from the City of Beacon and the City of Poughkeepsie police departments.
