Stabbing leaves one dead, two injured in Port Jervis

A stabbing took place in the overnight hours of July 11, 2023, at Jersey and Pennsylvania Avenues. One person has died, and two have been injured.

PORT JERVIS- A tragic incident involving teens and young adults took place in Port Jervis’ Fourth Ward early this morning.  One individual was killed, and two additional victims injured as a result of a melee that occurred on Jersey Avenue just after midnight Wednesday, July 12.

According to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, his office along with state police and Port Jervis Police are actively investigating the incident which involved teens and young adults in Port Jervis.  A total of three individuals were injured – one of whom is deceased.

Port Jervis Police issued a social media notice this morning reporting an investigation underway, with a portion of Jersey and Pennsylvania Avenues initially closed off.  Police presence is ongoing in that area as the investigation continues.

The Port Jervis City Police Department released the following just after noon on Wednesday.

Port Jervis City Police Department with the assistance of the New York State Police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are actively investigating a stabbing death that occurred during the early morning hours on July 12th in the area of Jersey Ave and Pennsylvania Ave.

The investigation is ongoing and as such no further information can be released at this time.  There is no present danger to the public.  Port Jervis Police urge any persons with information related to this incident to contact the Port Jervis Police Department at 845-856-5101.

Names are being withheld pending notification of families.  Hoovler said an update will be provided when possible.
