MONROE- Senator James Skoufis, representing Orange County, partnered with the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) and the Monroe Free Library to launch the “RCLS Road Trip” summer program.  Sponsored by Senator Skoufis, the initiative aims to promote literacy and community engagement by encouraging residents to visit as many of the system’s 47 libraries and 52 buildings as possible.

The RCLS Road Trip offers readers of all ages an opportunity to enjoy their local libraries, discover new books, and explore the diverse ways in which libraries enrich our communities.  Participants in the program will receive a map of the RCLS service area to help them track the libraries they visit, with the chance to win prizes along the way.  RCLS expects increased library usage throughout the summer and beyond, providing each participating library with an opportunity to showcase its unique programming, collections, and services to both new and returning visitors.

“Our libraries serve as vital community hubs, offering a space for individuals from all walks of life to gather, learn, and explore, and to connect with the world around them,” said Senator Skoufis.  “I commend RCLS for their creative efforts to introduce more Hudson Valley residents to the importance and vitality of our region’s libraries.  Literacy is fundamental to critical thinking and upward mobility for our children and communities, and I will always prioritize bringing Orange County tax dollars back home to support our libraries.”

Expressing gratitude to Senator Skoufis and library supporters, Grace Riario, Executive Director of RCLS, added, “Welcome to all those discovering libraries for the first time this summer.  I look forward to seeing what you discover!  Share your experiences with us by tagging #RCLSRoadTrip.”
