POUGHKEEPSIE – Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a string of commercial burglaries that occurred in multiple locations over the last three weeks.  The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) says the arrests occurred on June 4.

During the early morning hours, sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a business in the Village of Rhinebeck, at the same time the Town of Ulster Police were responding to a burglar alarm in their jurisdiction. Both alarms were the result of confirmed break-ins, and as the deputies began their investigation the Town of Ulster Police located two possible suspects in Ulster. Both of those subjects were taken into custody by Ulster Police. A third suspect fled in a vehicle back into Dutchess County. The third man was located and taken into custody by the New York State Police, and all three men were turned over to the DCSO Detective Bureau for further investigation.
The investigation led to charges being filed against the men, who are believed to be responsible for those commercial burglaries as well as several others in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, and Sullivan counties.
The three defendants, along with their charges, are as follows:
  •  Rickie Miranda Jr., 22, of Bristol, CT was charged with three felony counts of burglary. After being processed Miranda Jr. was released to the Tuxedo Police Department in Orange County for further investigation.
  • Jacob Miranda, 20, of Bristol, CT was charged with three counts of burglary, processed, and was released to the Tuxedo Police Department in Orange County for further investigation.
  •  Thomas Durant, 19, of Burlington, CT was charged with the misdemeanors of possession of burglar’s tools, conspiracy, criminal facilitation, and criminal possession of stolen property. After being processed, he was released on appearance tickets.
The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible at a later time. If anyone has any information about the burglaries or other similar incidents they are urged to contact DCSO Detective Jeffrey Cohen at 845-486-3827 or jcohen@dutchessny.gov. Information can also be provided through the Sheriff’s Office tipline at 845-605-CLUE (2583) or dcsotips@gmail.com, and all information will be kept confidential.
During this investigation, the DCSO was assisted by the New York State Police, Town of Ulster Police, Town of East Fishkill Police, Montgomery Police, Tuxedo Police, and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
