WURTSBORO – A few hundred people lined the parade route as the tiny Village of Wurtsboro remembered the country’s war dead and all who served and continue to serve.

Memorial Day has different meanings for different people who came out to watch the brief parade.

“I think it is very important to come out on this special day and recognize our boys who gave it all for this great country, and second of all, my wife is a member of the Wurtsboro Fire Department and I like to see her march,” said one man. A woman said she attends as “tradition and to thank our vets for everything they have done.” Another woman came to watch her son, daughter-in-law and their two children were in the parade, she said. “They are the light of my life.”

Even nine-year-old Jackson was there with his mom. “I came to support my grandma and everybody else,” he said.
