WW II vet,100-year-old Clement Heitzman, served as grand marshall

KINGSTON – We remembered our war dead, Monday on Memorial Day, but Mayor Steve Noble especially wanted to remember the passing of WW II vets and those who survived into their later years as the Greatest Generation.

“I think that all of the folks who are veterans in our country have just served so much, and they continue to serve,” he said.

“Even the veteran we are honoring today came back to Kingston after fighting WW II and did community service after community service and engaged with the community. It’s a whole generation of folks we are losing.”

One surviving WW II vet is 100-year-old Clement Heitzman, and he served as the grand marshal in a parade down Broadway that immediately followed a commemoration at City Hall early in the afternoon.

“We’re remembering all the active service members that were lost in combat,” said Noble. “It’s important to recognize all of our veterans that made it home then continued to serve our community.”
