Sen. Michelle Hinchey addressed Ulster Chamber of Commerce

KINGSTON – State Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) was the guest speaker at the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s monthly breakfast Friday, and she spoke about the recent budget approval in Albany.

Hinchey told the businesspeople that the recently adopted state budget was a difficult one, but “we are working back from truly decades of disinvestment and under investment. We made a lot of really significant strides, especially here in the Hudson Valley.”

What she did get as one of her priorities was better educational opportunities for children.

“We created 803 new pre-K seats in her Senate District 41 and 1,558 overall across Ulster County along with the expansion in free school meals, breakfast and lunch for 30,000 kids,” she said.

Hinchey said no matter where you live, children deserve to have that, too. “Not only is it early childhood education, it’s also a form of childcare, too,” she said.
