STEWART AIRPORT – Frontier Airlines is the latest to pull out of New York Stewart International Airport, but Port Authority officials remain “as optimistic as ever” that air service options will continue to grow, according to Charles Everett, aviation director of the agency.
Frontier, which began service to three Florida cities in October 2021 and later reduced it to just one city, will cease operations at the Newburgh area airport in early July.

Airline officials did not respond to requests for comment about their decision.

Everett said the Port Authority will be submitting a Small Community Air Service Development Grant Proposal to US Department of Transportation “to secure funds to support launching new service between SWF and high-demand markets like Chicago, Charlotte and Washington, D.C. as part of our continued air service development efforts.”

He said the Port Authority will continue to offer its “five-point strategic plan for SWF, which includes a new air carrier incentive program and a marketing campaign, we are encouraged by ongoing conversations with prospective air carriers.”

The airport will welcome a new airline, Atlantic Airways, in August. The airline will offer once-weekly flights to the Faroe Islands through October.
