NJ woman charged with manslaughter in connection with January car crash

RAMAPO – A 41-year-old Mahwah, New Jersey woman has been charged by Ramapo Town Police with manslaughter in connection with a three-vehicle crash on Saturday, January 28 of this year.

Sherlyne Bazile, 41, was also charged with reckless endangerment, assault and reckless driving. Police said alcohol intoxication and drug impairment are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash that occurred around 10 a.m.

Killed in the crash was an 85-year-old Montebello man who was driving a Hyundai Sonata.

At the time of the accident, police said Bazile, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue, was traveling eastbound on Route 59 when the car crossed into the westbound lane of Route 59 traffic and struck the Hyundai. Both of those vehicles then struck a tow truck that was being driven by a 58-year-old Airmont resident who was also traveling in the westbound lane of traffic.

Bazile, who was arrested on Wednesday, May 3, was arraigned and released without bail as per state bail reform laws pending a future court appearance.
