POUGHKEEPSIE – Anthony LaRocca, a member of the City of Poughkeepsie Historic District and Landmark Preservation Commission, is running for mayor on the Republican party line.  The lifelong city resident and teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes High School will run against the winner of the upcoming Democratic primary.

Three Democrats, including Mayor Marc Nelson, have filed designating petitions seeking a spot on the Democratic primary ballot.

LaRocca, a married father of seven, previously served on the zoning board before being appointed to the landmark commission.  “I am running for mayor because Poughkeepsie’s government needs a fresh approach and new perspective. Members of one party have total control of our city government.”

Former Mayor John Tkazyik serves as the chairman of the City of Poughkeepsie Republican Committee.  Touting the GOP candidate, he told Mid-Hudson News, “Anthony LaRocca was born and raised here. He cares about the things we all care about. Ridding our streets of guns and crime, holding the line on spending and taxes, creating new opportunities for our children, and bringing in new developments and new jobs to Poughkeepsie.”
