HYDE PARK – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office has charged 39-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident Cresson Horton with several felonies after an incident last Friday night at Bourbon Street Liquors on Albany Post Road (Route 9) in Hyde Park.  Horton was observed by a patrolling deputy while he was trying to break into the store.

When confronted, he returned to his car and crashed into the building several times in an attempt to drive through liquor store.  Unsuccessful in his endeavor, he raced out of the parking lot and began driving south on Route 9, pursued by the deputy and a Hyde Park Police patrol unit.

Horton used his vehicle as a weapon, striking the Hyde Park unit, and also tried to hit the deputy’s vehicle.

Moments later, Horton wrecked in the vicinity of the Stewart’s Shop on Route 9.  He received several lacerations to his face and required medical treatment.

He was taken into custody shortly after 12:00 a.m. on Saturday and charged with felonies of burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal mischief.  He was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle.  He was arraigned in Hyde Park Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

Horton is also facing criminal charges in other jurisdictions for recent acts.
