Four-alarm blaze claims one life

YONKERS – A fire that broke out shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday in the area of 671 Bronx River Road in Yonkers claimed the life of one resident, Yonkers Police said.

As a result of the four-alarm blaze, residents were evacuated to the community center north of the fire scene. The Office of Emergency Management and Red Cross assisted.

A male resident was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Five residents and fire responders were also injured.

Bronx River Road between Midland Avenue and Mile Square was closed for hours during the investigation.
