WHITE PLAINS – The City of Port Jervis is the big winner in the state’s sixth round of New York’s Downtown Revitalization Invitation (DRI) grants. Governor Kathy Hochul made the announcement while in White Plains on Tuesday along with another $4.5 million in grants for the Town and Village of Cornwall.

The City of Port Jervis will be the recipient of the $10 million DRI Grant which will be used for housing, modern infrastructure upgrades, and unique adaptive reuse opportunities.  Mayor Kelly Decker, who worked for several years to secure the funds, said “$10 million will certainly change, for the better, this old canal and railroad city into a place that will draw visitors and increase tourism.  Once struggling for its survival our little city on the banks of the Delaware has made leaps and bounds of improvements. The Downtown Revitalization Initiative is certainly the icing on the cake.” Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus called the county grants “transformative” and said they will be used for tourism, recreational and community enhancements.

The Town and Village of Cornwall will be using the funding for tourism, recreation opportunities, and community enhancements.

The grant also includes a $30 million infrastructure investment for the 17Forward86 improvements of the superhighway that runs through the heart of Orange County Orange County to the greater Monticello area.

Maureen Halahan, President & CEO of the Orange County Partnership applauded the grants, saying “It has been my privilege to serve on the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council since its inception and I am honored to have played a role in securing transformational investment for Orange County.”

Port Jervis joins Middletown, Kingston, New Rochelle, Peekskill, Haverstraw, and Ossining, which were the Mid-Hudson region’s winners in the first five DRI rounds.
