NEW PALTZ – Forty-one-year-old Michael Mazzurco of Modena has been arrested after an eight-month investigation into a rape allegation conducted by the New Paltz Police Department. Mazzurco was taken into custody on February 16, 2023, after being indicted on a felony rape charge earlier in the day by the Ulster County Grand Jury.
New Paltz Police responded to a complaint of sexual assault in the village on June 18, 2022. Responding officers arranged for medical treatment of the victim and detectives collected evidence that identified Mazzurco as the suspect.
Mazzurco was taken into custody at his Modena residence, processed in New Paltz Justice Court, and remanded to the Ulster County Jail pending his next court appearance.
