KINGSTON – A former Ulster County BOCES criminal justice instructor who is a retired Westchester County police officer, has been indicted alleging that he stole over $163,000 from the state retirement system by taking unlawful pension payments and forging a required certificate purportedly issued by the State Education Department.

The indictment was announced by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Ulster County District Attorney David Clegg.

After retiring as a cop, Anthony Sciacca was hired by BOCES at an annual salary of $70,000, but as a state retiree under 65 at the time, he needed a waiver to earn more than $30,000.

It is alleged that he forged documents purporting to have those waivers for eight years.

He has now been charged in Ulster County Court with scheme to defraud, grand larceny, defrauding the government, four counts of forgery, two counts of offering a false instrument for filing, two counts of falsifying a business record and retirement fraud.

Those charges are in addition to those first brought against him when he was arrested in July 2022 on grand larceny, forgery and other charges.
