POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie man is under arrest on a kidnapping charge after he allegedly pulled a knife on a woman who was sitting in her parked car on Spruce Street in that city with her two children, ages three and five.

The incident occurred around 6:44 p.m. on Monday, February 6 when the man, later identified as Derrick Woodhouse, 49, forced her to drive to a store in the City of Poughkeepsie and get money from her bank account while he stayed with the children.

When she got back in the car with her money, the suspect directed her to drive to another location. She began crying at that spot causing him to scream at her and catching the attention of pedestrians in the area.

Woodhouse took off without the money.

Investigation led to the identification of Woodhouse, a four-time violent convicted felon.

At 10 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a report of a suspicious person inside 559 Main Street, who turned out to be Woodhouse. He was arrested without incident.

Police charged him with the felonies of kidnapping and attempted robbery and a misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child.
