WASHINGTON – Today, Friday, January 6 marks the anniversary of the attack on the US Capitol building in a violent attempt to prevent the certification of the presidential election.

Congressman-elect Pat Ryan released a statement on the anniversary expressing his feelings.

“Two years ago, insurrectionists stormed the Capitol and tried to overthrow our democracy,” he said. “As a West Point cadet, I sworn an oath to defend this country from all enemies both foreign and domestic. We must continue our work to combat domestic political extremism in all its forms, and we are grateful every day for the bravery and sacrifice of the Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department, which saved countless lives.”
