BEACON – City of Beacon firefighters responded to “The Guest House” at 925 Wolcott Avenue at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday for reports of a fire on all three floors of the boarding house.  Within minutes of arrival, a second alarm was dispatched, bringing additional fire departments and manpower to the scene.

At 6:32 a.m. emergency radio traffic indicated that the third floor of the structure had collapsed onto the second floor.

At 6:36 a.m., firefighters were still working to evacuate the residents of the building.

Multiple Mid-Hudson News sources at the scene have indicated that a man turned himself in to the police, saying that he was responsible for starting the fire.

According to the City of Beacon Fire Department, the entire structure has been destroyed.  The property had recently been sold and construction was being performed at the property until the project was shut down by city officials.
