MONTICELLO – A 34-year-old Liberty man with several previous felony convictions faces up to 15 years in state prison when sentenced in February 2023 on his conviction of felony possession of fentanyl and crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Jeremiah Herbert was found guilty on Thursday following a four-day trial in Sullivan County Court.

Herbert’s arrest stemmed from an investigation headed up by the State Police Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team with Liberty Village Police and the county district attorney’s office.

“This defendant’s actions put our community at risk and will not be tolerated,” said Chief Assistant DA Brian Conaty. “We know all too well how dangerous fentanyl is, yet this defendant’s actions demonstrate his disregard for the value of human life.”

Conaty said the DA’s office will continue to prosecute “those who profit from addiction to the fullest extent of the law, while seeking rehabilitation for those who suffer from substance use disorder before it’s too late.”
