HARRISON – An alert Harrison Police officer is credited with taking a man wanted for attempted murder in Maryland into custody.
During a state-funded DWI enforcement detail, Officer Michael Forgione noticed an expired New Jersey temporary license plate on a vehicle on Westchester Avenue.
He conducted a traffic stop in the evening of Thursday, December 8.
The officer determined the driver, whose name was not released, had an arrest warrant from Maryland for attempted murder, assault and firearm discharges in commission of a violent felony.
The driver was picking up a friend from the West Harrison area when he was stopped and arrested.
He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and remanded to the Westchester County Jail pending extradition to Maryland.
“Our officers are always on the alert,” said Harrison Police Chief John Vasta. “I commend Officer Forgione for helping to keep the streets of Harrison safe for all.”
