Communicated Content – The Hudson Valley Renegades gained new ownership during the 2022 minor league baseball season after being acquired by Diamond Baseball Holdings. Now, the New York Yankees High-A affiliate is about to see its Duchess Stadium revamped thanks to local legislators.

A new county budget for 2023 passed by the Dutchess County Legislature will provide $25 million for the baseball club’s stadium to be improved. The Hudson Valley Renegades have a 25-year rental contract with the county, and the money for refurbishments will fulfil the county’s obligation to the team and venue.

The 25-year stadium rental agreement was signed in June 2021. The deal between the team and the county has been under dispute by the Democrats in the legislature, but it is now official that money for the improvements will go ahead. A budget of $587.7m was passed by the legislature which is controlled by the Republican party.

Duchess Stadium is owned by the county and the funds will come from the Duchess County fund balance. Money will be used to build new batting and pitching areas, new seating, an enclosed event space, and a new team clubhouse. The improvements will be ready for the 2024 minor-league baseball season.

Duchess County is accepting bids until the end of December from organizations capable of carrying out the construction work on the baseball stadium. It is believed the work on the stadium will cost less than the $25m earmarked for the project.

The Hudson Valley Renegades became the New York Yankees High-A affiliate in 2021. The team was previously the minor league affiliate for the Texas Rangers from 1994 to 1995 and the Tampa Bay Rays from 1996 to 2020. The team has played in the Duchess County Stadium since its inception.

Duchess County Stadium holds 4,500 fans for baseball games. The venue cost $8.3m to build in 1994 and has housed the Renegades since day No 1. The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team also called the venue home for some time. In 2015, the Hudson Valley Fort of the Fall Experimental Football League played at the stadium.

The Hudson Valley Renegades were bought by Diamond Baseball Holdings in 2022. The Renegades become one of the many teams in Diamond Baseball Holdings’ portfolio of minor league baseball clubs. The organization has been on a spending spree across the United States in recent months to buy up as many Minor League Baseball franchises as possible.

Formed in 2021, Diamond Baseball Holdings aims to own more than 20 minor league franchises. The company’s portfolio features minor league teams from High-A to Triple-A. Diamond Baseball Holdings’ most recent purchase was the Portland Sea Dogs. The Sea Dogs are the Boston Red Sox Double-A affiliate. Along with the Sea Dogs, Diamond Baseball Holdings are negotiating a deal for the Midland Rockhounds, a Double-A affiliate of the Oakland A’s.
