Yonkers cop injured after being struck by fleeing carjackers

YONKERS – Suspected carjackers from New York City struck an Yonkers Police Officer on Sunday as Several Yonkers cops attempted to apprehend the suspects.  The officer was struck by the suspect vehicle and is receiving hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Yonkers Police officials, officers responded to the area of Point Street and Ravine Avenue at approximately 3:14 p.m. for a report of an occupied vehicle that may have been involved in an armed robbery/carjacking in New York City.

Yonkers police officers responded and the three occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene in the stolen vehicle.  The suspects were involved in a motor-vehicle accident, including striking a Yonkers officer, and attempted to flee the scene on foot.

The three suspects were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The suspects are in custody of the Yonkers Police Department at the Detective Division pending further investigation and criminal charges.

Police have not released the identities of the three suspects.
