NEWBURGH – In the wake of this week’s raids and arrests of over a dozen suspects involved in violence in Newburgh and Poughkeepsie, Newburgh City Police Commissioner Jose Gomerez said he is making good on the promise he made when hired to “address gun violence head-on.”

He said one of his first acts was to re-engage the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force and this week’s arrests for crimes ranging from racketeering to attempted murder are “another step forward in delivering on that promise.”

The commissioner said law enforcement “will not rest until every corner of our city belongs to the community, not the criminals.”
