MID-HUDSON – The cost of construction materials may have risen because of supply chain issues and other factors, but construction in the Hudson Valley appears to remain strong.

Todd Diorio, president of the Construction Trades Council of the Mid-Hudson, said there is plenty of work out there.

“We are in the process now of doing some recruitment. We have the infrastructure bill, we have the schools, we have a lot of work at West Point. Solar work is starting to pick up in the Hudson Valley, so we are excited about the future in construction,” he said.

The labor unions have been ramping up their training programs to bring in the new generation of well-versed workers.

Diorio is business manager of Laborers Local 17.
