ALBANY – A 37-year-old Cairo man was sentenced on Tuesday in Albany federal court to 10 years in prison for attempting to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity with him.

Thomas “Tommy” Squires admitted that between June 28, 2020, and August 19, 2020, he exchanged sexually explicit messages with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old child, in an attempt to coerce and entice the child into engaging in sexual acts.

In those messages, Squires repeatedly asked the child for naked photos and sent photos of his intimate area to the presumed child.

Squires also admitted that on August 19, 2020, he traveled in order to meet with the child in Cairo. He was arrested after arriving at the location and has been in custody since then.

District Judge Mae D’Agostino also imposed a 15-year term of supervised release when he completes his prison term and he will be required to register as a sex offender.
