MAMAKATING – A 70-year-old Deerpark man was struck and killed last Friday evening after he and his son got out of their vehicle on Route 209 in the Town of Mamakating to assess damage after they struck a deer.

State Police said the son, 33-year-old James Harrington of Mamakating, told them he saw a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction when he heard a crash. The son observed his father, 70-year-old James F. Harrington, injured and on the ground. The victim was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle that struck Harrington, a 2020 Honda CRV, was driven by James Christiano, 78, of Minisink, who stayed at the scene.

Troopers said Christiano showed no signs of impairment and further investigation revealed he was not using his cell phone before the crash. The investigation is continuing.
