Police securing the scene where victim was found early Sunday morning.

POUGHKEEPSIE – Police are investigating a Sunday morning shooting on Main Street in Poughkeepsie that sent a young man to the hospital shortly after 2:30 a.m.

City police and fire responded to lower Main Street for reports of a man with a gunshot wound to the torso in the vicinity of the intersection of Main and South Clover Street in the city.

A witness told Mid-Hudson News at the scene that they heard at least three gunshots.  One witness said the male was shot in the insurance company parking lot and ran down the street to the area of 96 Main Street to seek assistance.

The man collapsed on the sidewalk, bleeding from his wound prior to emergency personnel arriving.  The witness said the victim was alert and conscious before he was transported to the hospital.

Police, as of 4:00 a.m. were canvassing the parking lot of Marshall & Sterling insurance in an attempt to locate evidence.
