FISHKILL – A woman attempting to cross Route 9 on Friday morning in Fishkill was struck by a car and later died from her injuries, according to Town of Fishkill Police Chief Keith Dworkin.  The accident occurred at 6:37 a.m. near the intersection of Route 9 and Clove Road in the town.

Town of Fishkill officers responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call that a woman had been struck by a car.  When officers arrived, they found an unconscious woman in the roadway with serious injuries. The victim was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s-Cornwall Hospital in critical condition and died a short time later.

According to Chief Dworkin, the victim had been a passenger in a vehicle parked on the west side of Route 9 before she exited the vehicle and attempted to cross to the east side of Route 9 and was struck by a southbound vehicle operated by a 23-year-old woman from Poughkeepsie.

Both lanes of Route 9 in the area were closed for several hours while the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the fatal accident with the Town of Fishkill police.  Dworkin noted that his agency was assisted at the scene by the Village of Fishkill police, Rombout Fire Department, and Mobile Life Support Services.
