MIDDLETOWN – Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano and his entire family had planed on spending a six-day vacation at Disneyworld in Orlando, but when Hurricane Ian struck Florida, they wound up spending another four days riding out the storm.
They are back now after what DeStefano said was a “somewhat scary” few days.
“The wind and the rain and watching the waters come up on TV a mile or so away from you makes you wonder, but nothing compared to what the people in the Fort Meyers area and the coast experienced; just total devastation,” he told Mid-Hudson News.
DeStefano said many of the Florida locals get hotel rooms at Disney during hurricane events because of the solid construction of the hotels.
