During the coordinated search effort, a first-floor hotel room was found to contain manuals related to the making of explosive devices and materials with the potential to be used as explosives. Upon the discovery, the room was secured and the New York State Police Bomb Squad responded to secure the material. The ATF was also notified.

The investigation is ongoing. Town of Poughkeepsie Police Lieutenant Jason Burger told Mid-Hudson News that it doesn’t appear that the shooter and victim were known to each other.
