TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Multiple police agencies responded to a Route 9 hotel early Sunday morning for a report of an active shooter.  Police recovered one victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police, fire, and EMS personnel responded to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on South Road (Route 9) just before 8:00 a.m. for a report of an active shooter armed with a long gun.  A victim with multiple gunshot wounds was transported by ambulance to a local hospital while performing CPR.

Early radio transmissions indicate that one suspect was taken into custody.  Police SWAT teams from two agencies were activated and responded to the command center set up in a parking lot near the hotel while others began a room-by-room search.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. an officer indicated that the suspect’s room, identified as room 143, had been located.  The room was secured and locked down pending further investigation.

Guests of the hotel were being evacuated from their rooms by the SWAT teams at 9:00 a.m.

A group of officers was dispatched to the neighboring Locust Grove property to secure the facility.

The hotel, like most in the area, has been fully booked with guests this weekend due to Marist College’s “Family Weekend”.

Two lanes of southbound South Road (Route 9) were restricted to emergency vehicles.
