NEW PALTZ – A New Paltz man has been charged with the armed robbery of a gas station in the Village of New Paltz on September 11.

Interviews and surveillance video from several private establishments led to the identification of a suspect, identified as Patrick Gaffney, 56, and search warrants were obtained for his residence and vehicle.

On Wednesday, September 14, detectives executed the search warrants and recovered stolen property and several pieces of evidence.

He was placed into custody and returned to police headquarters where he was interviewed and processed on charges of one count of armed robbery, two counts of burglary, and one count of criminal possession of stolen property.

During the interview, probable cause was established to charge Gaffney with two counts of burglary from two previous incidents that were under investigation by the detective division.

Gaffney was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $200,000 insured bond.
