WASHINGTON – Former Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan took the oath of office as New York’s 19th District congressman on Tuesday, a post he will hold until the end of the year.
The West Point graduate said he has the same feeling of pride and commitment to our country as he had when he graduated and led troops in the Middle East some 18 years ago.
“This is a moment of immense consequence and challenge for our country. I truly believe it’s an all-hands-on-deck moment for our democracy,” he said while speaking on the House floor. “I pledge that I will fight every single day with every ounce of my being to deliver for the great people of New York’s 19th District and to renew trust and faith in our nation.”
In November, Ryan, a Democrat, will run for a full two-year term in the new 18th District against Republican Colin Schmitt.
