KINGSTON – The Ulster County Democratic Committee will meet at Kingston City Hall on Saturday, September 17 to select a candidate to run for county executive in this November’s general election.

Three candidates – March Gallagher, Jennifer Metzger and Marc Rider – are vying to fill the remainder of County Executive Patrick Ryan’s term, which ends on December 31, 2023.

Ryan will be sworn in on Tuesday as the House of Representatives member in New York’s District 19.

Who ever the Democrats select during their convention will be the next county executive since no Republican has stepped forward as a challenger.

County Democratic Chairwoman Kelleigh McKenzie said the county charter and state election law have strict time requirements for selecting the party’s nominee, throwing the nomination to the county committee.

The convention will begin at 4:30 p.m.
