Callicoon man arrested for wielding machete

LIBERTY – A 29-year-old Callicoon man was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on bail following his arrest on Sunday by Village of Liberty Police for allegedly threatening another person with a machete.

At about 9 p.m. a police dispatcher monitoring the department’s Main Street surveillance cameras observed what appeared to be individuals fighting.

Officers responded and observed Brandon Luciano holding machete and menacing another person.

Police were able to take Luciano into custody after a brief struggle. Once taken back to police headquarters, he continued to be disruptive and combative and damaged a pair of handcuffs used to restrain him.

Luciano was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

He was arraigned and remanded to county jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail, $10,000 bond or $15,000 partially secured bond.
