NEW HAMBURG – Two people were injured during a collision between two personal watercraft on the Hudson River on Wednesday. New Hamburg Fire Department Chief Jeff Renihan said his agency was dispatched to the wreck at 4:48 p.m. on August 24.
New Hamburg firefighters launched their rescue boat and were assisted by vessels from the City of Poughkeepsie and Middle Hope fire departments in locating and rescuing the two crash victims. New Hamburg Assistant Fire Chief Joe Moore commanded the efforts and his crew located the two victims in the water along with two heavily damaged PWCs.
While the victims were taken ashore by the New Hamburg crew, City of Poughkeepsie firefighters remained with the two damaged jet skis until New Hamburg’s fire boat returned to retrieve them and tow them to land.
The rescue was completed around 6 p.m.
