GOSHEN – A Newburgh man was convicted on drug charges by an Orange County Court jury on Friday.

District Attorney David Hoovler said Jarves Evans, also known as “J,” 26, was found guilty of criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

He faces a mandatory prison term when sentenced in October and was remanded to the Orange County Jail following the verdict.

The indictment against Evans was in connection with a series of drug sales he made with a known individual.

As proven at his trial, in January of 2022, Evans sold heroin and fentanyl to a known person in the City of Port Jervis. Less than a week later, he again sold crack cocaine to the same person.

A search warrant was executed at a Port Jervis apartment where Evans was located. Police recovered narcotics, packaging materials for narcotics ands the proceeds of drug sales.

Port Jervis Police and the Orange County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation that led to the arrest of Evans.

“Overdose deaths as a result of the poison of heroin and fentanyl have skyrocketed in recent years,” said DA Hoovler. “My office will not cease our tireless pursuit of drug dealers who peddle their fatal products in our communities.”
