UNION VALE – First responders and a Dutchess County 911 dispatcher are being credited with saving a life early Monday morning.  Union Vale Fire Department EMS was dispatched at 1:28 a.m. on June 27 for an unconscious man who was reportedly not breathing.

While emergency personnel were responding to the scene, the Dutchess County 911 dispatcher was providing CPR instructions to a family member of the victim.  When the Union Vale personnel and Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they took over CPR and used an automatic external defibrillator.  The patient began breathing on his own a short time later and he was conscious prior to being transported by ambulance to Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

At the hospital, the patient was still conscious and able to speak with medical personnel.

“There is no higher accomplishment in emergency services than saving a life,” said Union Vale Fire District Chief Steven Schmoke.  ” The quick actions of the first responders, including the Dutchess County 911 emergency staff, deputies of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Mobil Life Support, and members of the Union Vale Fire District resulted in a life being saved and should be commended for their extraordinary efforts.”
