Medical examiner called to Newburgh three-alarm fire

NEWBURGH – A three-alarm fire in a building at 68 Lander Street in the City of Newburgh late Wednesday night has apparently claimed a life. An Orange County medical examiner was called to the scene shortly after midnight.

Twelve apartments were damaged.

The fire broke out after 10 p.m. and quickly spread to three alarms for additional manpower.

Flames had spread throughout the building from the first, second and third floors and into the cockloft.

Shortly before 11 p.m., EMS was called to the scene for someone who was reported to have jumped from an upper floor.

Eleven fire departments were o0n the scene. Mutual aid departments were released from the scene at 1:45 a.m. Thursday.
