WHITE PLAINS – A former Mount Vernon Police Officer was sentenced to three years of probation for assaulting an inmate who was handcuffed and in his custody.

James Ready, 29, of Putnam Valley was sentenced on Tuesday on his guilty plea to a misdemeanor of assault.

Ready, who was a probationary officer at the time of the incident, resigned from the force.

In the early morning of November 23, 2019, Ready was guarding the handcuffed and shackled inmate who was receiving medical attention at a hospital. As Ready was attempting to return the inmate to the police station, he threw the man to the floor causing his body and head to hit the floor, resulting in injury.
