ALBANY – A 37-year-old Cairo, New York man pled guilty on Tuesday in Albany federal court to attempting to coerce and entice a 14-year-old to engage in sexual acts with him.

As part of his guilty plea, Thomas “Tommy” Squires admitted that between July and August 2020, he sent graphic, sexually explicit text messages to an under investigator who was posing as the 14-year-old child.

In those messages, Squires repeatedly asked the child for naked photos and sent lewd photos of himself to the child. He also asked to meet the child at a location in Cairo to engage in sex acts in his car.

On August 19, 2020, Squares traveled from his home in Cairo to the pre-determined location to meet and have sex with the child. Instead, he was met by law enforcement and arrested.

When sentenced in October, he faces from 10 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and from five years to life of post-release supervision.
