Law enforcement was at DCC on Tuesday performing a grid search for a cold case.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A large police presence in a parking lot at Dutchess Community College (DCC) on Tuesday morning was the result of a search pertaining to a cold case the New York State Police are investigating.

Bobbilyn Sturgess

The police noted that there was no threat to public safety when asked about the large law enforcement presence.

Numerous K9 units from various state police troops were joined by local police K9 units in searching the woods located in the northeast corner of parking lot “E” on Cream Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  The K9s were joined by multiple investigators and support staff and the section of the parking lot was off-limits to civilians.

Many observers believe that the large-scale grid search was an attempt to locate the remains of 48-year-old Bobbilyn Sturgess, who went missing in June of 2021.  The original account of Sturgess can be found here.

In July of 2021, a smaller search for Sturgess was conducted by the state police in the area of an apartment complex.  That account can be found here.

Sturgess is described as a white woman, 48, 5’1″ tall, 120 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. She is known to frequent the city of Poughkeepsie area.  State Police are asking for anyone with information to call them at (845) 677-7300 and reference case number 10309658.
